As of January 1, 2022, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) that outlines the expected cost of your care—before you begin services.

This law applies to anyone who is:

  • Uninsured, or

  • Not using insurance benefits (which includes clients in this practice, as I do not bill insurance directly).\

The Good Faith Estimate will include the total expected cost of services for non-emergency care, such as psychotherapy sessions. It is based on the information available at the time and reflects your likely course of care. For example, many clients in my practice attend weekly sessions for an average of 10 months per year.

You will receive your estimate in writing before your first session and may request an updated version at any time. If you ever receive a bill that is $400 or more above the estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges.

Be sure to keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.  If you have questions, I’m happy to talk through them. You can also learn more at: www.cms.gov/nosurprises
